Physical Examination Procedure for International Students in China (guided by the International Students Center)

China requires international students to undergo a medical examination as part of the visa/residence permit application process.

Below is a step-by-step guide tailored to China’s requirements:

1. Determine When and Where to Complete the Exam

Timing:

If already in China, complete the exam during your residence permit application (within 2 working days of arrival).

Approved Hospitals:

Exams must be done at designated hospitals (guided by the International Students Center).

2. Prepare Required Documents

Passport (original and photocopy).

Passport-sized photos (4–6, white background).

Health Commitment and Physical Examination Appointment

Foreigner Physical Examination Form (provided by the hospital).

Vaccination records (e.g., MMR, Hepatitis B), if applicable.

Medical history (chronic conditions, surgeries, allergies), if applicable.

3. Medical Tests and Procedures

The physical examination requires no eating or drinking after dinner for 8 hours the day before, the exam typically includes:

Physical Check-Up: Height, weight, blood pressure, vision, hearing.

Blood Tests: HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B, and other infectious diseases.

Chest X-ray: To screen for tuberculosis (TB).

ECG (Electrocardiogram).

Ultrasound (abdominal organs).

Urine Test.

Note: Students from countries with high TB prevalence may need additional tests.

4. Submit the Report

The hospital will provide a sealed and stamped copy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form.

Submit the report to your university/local immigration office for your residence permit.

5. Post-Examination Steps

Follow-Up: If tests are abnormal (e.g., TB detected), you may need treatment or retesting.

6. Costs and Processing Time

Cost: Approximately ¥300–500 (varies by hospital).

Processing: Results take 3–7 working days. Expedited services may cost extra.

Important Tips

Factilitation: To facilitate and prompt the procedures, please get the documents (templates) ready or send to fis@jju.edu.cn in advance.

Honesty: Disclose medical history truthfully. Falsifying records can lead to visa denial.

Translations: Non-English/Chinese documents must be translated and notarized.

Keep Copies: Retain duplicates of all medical reports for future use.

By completing these steps promptly and accurately, you’ll ensure compliance with China’s regulations and avoid delays in starting your studies.
