Jiujiang University International Students Publish Research in High-Impact International Journals

Jiujiang, China – The Faculty of International Studies (FIS) at Jiujiang University has announced that two international Clinical Medicine students have achieved significant research milestones, with their work published in two leading SCI-indexed journals.

Toheed Aqdas, a student from the Batch of 2022-B, is listed as a co-author of a paper titled "Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome and Ischemic Stroke: Investigating Inflammatory Mechanisms," which appeared in the journal Nature and Science of Sleep (published by Dovepress) on March 23, 2026.

The study explores the pathophysiological links between Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) and ischemic stroke, focusing on key inflammatory pathways such as PI3K/Akt signaling, Toll-like receptor signaling, and the NLRP3 inflammasome. It also discusses how OSAS affects stroke progression, recovery, and prognosis, while highlighting potential anti-inflammatory treatments and the importance of early intervention.

In a separate achievement, Muhammad Saad Ullah, a student from the Batch of 2021-A, contributed as an author to a paper titled "The Role of MMPs in Intracerebral Hemorrhage," published in Frontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology on December 17, 2025. His research investigates the role of Matrix Metalloproteinases (MMPs) in brain injury mechanisms, blood-brain barrier disruption, and inflammation following intracerebral hemorrhage, offering insights into potential therapeutic pathways.

Toheed Aqdas 同学（2022级B班）参与撰写的论文《阻塞性睡眠呼吸暂停综合征与缺血性卒中：炎症机制探究》于2026年3月23日发表在期刊 Nature and Science of Sleep（Dovepress出版）。该论文系统探讨了阻塞性睡眠呼吸暂停综合征与缺血性卒中之间的病理生理联系，重点分析了PI3K/Akt信号通路、Toll样受体信号通路及NLRP3炎症小体等炎症机制，并进一步阐述了OSAS对卒中进展、康复及预后的影响，同时提出了潜在的抗炎治疗策略及早期干预的重要性。
